What changed?

Krasnyi Oktyabr Inc. has recalled Starfish Seafood Premium Cold Smoked Norwegian Salmon Sliced because of a possible health risk.

The concern is potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.

The recalled product is:

Starfish Seafood Premium Cold Smoked Norwegian Salmon Sliced — frozen, vacuum-sealed, 227 g (8 oz) — UPC: 4751048940099 — Lot: D080-148 — Best before: November 27, 2027

Listeria is a bacterium that can survive in cold environments, including refrigerated and frozen foods. That's why a frozen, vacuum-sealed product can still carry it.

Who is affected?

The recalled salmon was distributed in six states:

New York, Florida, Georgia, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Ohio

Listeria matters especially for older adults. According to the FDA, it can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in older adults, people with weakened immune systems, and others at higher risk.

If you have eaten this product and develop symptoms such as fever, muscle aches, nausea or diarrhea, contact a healthcare provider and mention the recall.

When?

The recall applies to packages with Lot D080-148 and a best-before date of November 27, 2027.

The recall was posted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

What does this mean?

So this is a warning about one specific product — not about all smoked salmon.

But it is a reason to take the package in your freezer seriously. Listeria isn't removed by freezing, and a contaminated product can make someone seriously ill.

Why Listeria deserves your attention

Most healthy people who encounter Listeria may experience only mild symptoms, or none at all.

But for older adults, the same exposure can lead to a serious infection. That gap is why recalls like this one are treated as a significant health risk rather than a minor labeling issue.

What should consumers do?

The FDA says consumers should not eat the recalled product. Here's what to do instead:

  1. 1

    Don't eat the recalled salmon

If the package matches the product, UPC, lot number and best-before date above, do not eat it.

  2. 2

Return it for a full refund

Return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund.

  3. 3

    Contact the company with questions

Krasnyi Oktyabr Inc. can be reached at (718) 858-6720.

What this does not mean

  • No illnesses had been reported in connection with this recall in the FDA notice.
  • Only one product is affected: Starfish Seafood Premium Cold Smoked Norwegian Salmon Sliced, 227 g (8 oz), Lot D080-148, best before November 27, 2027.
  • This is not a warning against smoked salmon generally — it's a reason to check the specific package details.
